Not just another photography contest, NOIR BLANC 21 is a bold and modern international event showing off the works of new and emerging black and white portrait photographers and their creative teams from around the world.
We’re on the lookout for extraordinary portraiture work that captures the dynamic relationship between subject and photographer – presented in black, white and all the tones in between.
Our aim is to uncover photographers and creative teams from diverse backgrounds and experience levels, and connect them with global audiences and career-changing opportunities.
Finalists and winners will be announced in June 2021, ahead of each entrant’s work being exhibited in Paris, Milan, London, New York, Los Angeles and Melbourne.
Entry Requirements
- Entries must contain the image or representation of a person.
- Entries must be monochrome black-and-white images, which can include black, white and an infinite number of grays, but no other colors or tones (including sepia, selenium or split tones).
- Entries must be created using a photographic process
Selection Criteria
Our judges are looking for incredible B&W content, from creative teams around the world, that speaks to them in one (or more) of four ways:
- its artistic beauty,
- its technical brilliance,
- its embedded social message, or
- simply because it pushes a boundary
Awards & Benefits
NOIR BLANC 21 has a prize pool valued at more than $10,000 USD, as well as a range of other benefits that come with having your work exhibited in major art and cultural centres around the world.
There are two categories of entry: a digital entry and an exhibition entry.

Digital Entries
All digital entries to NOIR BLANC 21 will receive:
- Their image digitally projected or displayed on rotation at each exhibition
- Inclusion in the online exhibition at noirblanc21.com
- Inclusion in all social media feeds
- Judging and consideration for a combined prize pool of $3,000 USD
- A documented submission review by a qualified and experienced photo industry professional (an additional fee applies)
Exhibition Entries
All exhibition entries to NOIR BLANC 21 will be exhibited at the entrant’s choice of exhibitions in Paris, Milan, New York, Los Angeles or Melbourne and will receive:
- One on one print consultation and 13” x 19” (A3+) giclée print on archival quality stock (stock upgrades available for an additional fee)
- Freight, framing, insurance and installation at each exhibition
- Inclusion in exhibition programs and promotional material
- Exclusive invitations to opening nights at each exhibition
- Qualified sitting and sales representation during exhibitions
- Full revenues from sales (less any gallery commissions)
- Postage and freight for delivery of artwork at conclusion of exhibitions
- Inclusion in the online exhibition at noirblanc21.com
- Inclusion in all social media feeds
- Judging and consideration for a combined prize pool of $7,000 USD
- A documented submission review by a qualified and experienced photo industry professional (an additional fee applies)
The Exhibitions
NOIR BLANC 21 will curate and manage exhibitions of entrant’s works in boutique galleries in major cultural centres around the world.
Exhibitions will be held in Paris, Milan, London, New York, Los Angeles or Melbourne in the second half of 2021. Exact dates and galleries will be published shortly.
