“When Sennacherib commissioned the creation of a beaten gold tree of life, worshipping it as the center of the known world, the dynamic, spiritually fibrous link between the underworld and the heavens, did he do so with the innate understanding that threes are the lungs of the world? Did the young girl that lived in a tree to stay the hungry chainsaw?
The ancient Celts built their cosmology around a tree. Were they subconsciously designing and discovering with their breath? Is the simple act of breathing the genesis of prayer?
We hold our breath when we shoot a gun — prayer suspended — the trees watching?
There is the story of the boy that planted a tree with his grandfather. It grew as he grew. Years later he fell in love with great growling machinery, machinery that cut and chewed and pushed and expunged.
A film crew caught him sitting, idle, in the bulldozer, tears running down his dirt and diesel painted cheeks — news of his grandfather’s death had just reached him. He suddenly recognized the fallen, mangled oaks and elms, he remembered the child/tree he had planted as a child. He couldn’t breathe…”. From “Lost in the Neighborhood With Books” by Franklin Cincinnatus.
Creativity is encouraged.
