It’s time! The World Sight Day photo competition is live. Help us mark #WSD2020 and draw attention to avoidable blindness and vision impairment.

We know that over a billion people have a vision impairment that could have been treated or addressed. Prevalence of vision impairment in many low- and middle-income regions is estimated to be four times higher than in high-income regions.

2020 has been a year of extraordinary changes because of the COVID-19 pandemic raging across the world. Most countries have prioritized COVID-19 control and every aspect of the country’s health system has a role to play.

Yet, there is hope in sight. There are many innovations and models that eye health, which can positively impact health. With the theme “Hope in Sight”, IAPB encourages you to share photos that highlight the impact, the strength of our partnerships and highlight the importance of vision everywhere in the world.

The Photo Contest is open to all: Amateur and Professional Photographers.

World Sight Day 2020

World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. World Sight Day 2020 is on 8 October 2020.

It is a great time to engage with a wider audience – a patient’s family, those who seldom get an eye exam, people with diabetes – and showcase why eye health needs everybody’s attention. To know more about the World Sight Day, please click on the below button.

Every week, we will pick “Editor’s picks” and showcase them on IAPB’s social media accounts, Facebook and Twitter.

    The Professional winner will get USD 1000
  • Amateur
    The Amateur winner will get a Canon1200D DSLR Camera

Dates

The competition will be open till 8 October 2020 –World Sight Day, after which we will pick two winners and 5 runners-up

Winners will be announced on 15 October 2020 and contacted by mail following the official announcement.

About The Competition

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. This competition can be a great opportunity to highlight eye health successes and also document unmet need.

The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) is an alliance of civil society organisations, corporates and professional bodies promoting eye health through advocacy, knowledge and partnerships. Together, we can work towards building support for blindness prevention and to ensure universal eye health. We run the photo competition to mark World Sight Day, an annual day of awareness to mark avoidable blindness and vision impairment.
