Themes
- Climate Change
Venice is vanishing inch by inch. Beijing is barely visible through the smog. Ice receding, penguins and walruses search for anywhere to rest. “Ghost forests” of coastal trees are choked to death by salt-water. Islands of plastic garbage accumulate in oceans. Fires in California rage for days and destroy entire towns. Drought in Africa sparks wars – which send families fleeing to other continents – where they meet with hostility stoked by fear and political extremism. Climate Change is now, pressing on us. How can we make a change to save the planet and its inhabitants from disaster? - Unity in Diversity
As we move further forward into the 21st century, and our planet becomes smaller with increased internet connectivity and global travel, we see greater cross-cultural human interaction, but also a rise in tensions as culture, religion, politics and economies collide. Compounded by climate change and strains on resources, these tensions are likely to become a significant challenge to governments and institutions over the next decade. But yet, diversity is the DNA of humanity and its development of art and culture.
Unity in diversity is used as an expression of harmony and unity between dissimilar individuals or groups. It is a concept of “unity without uniformity and diversity without fragmentation”[Lalonde] that shifts focus from unity based on a mere tolerance of physical, cultural, linguistic, social, religious, political, ideological and/or psycholog cal differences towards a more complex unity based on an understanding that difference enriches human interactions. - Human Love
Since the beginning of human kind we have been practicing and celebrating Human Love. Send us your images of this wonderful emotion so nicely described by many poets including William Shakespeare in Sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?As we Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to Time thou grow’st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
