We live in a world increasingly enervated by the sense that at any moment everything could change, generally for the worse. Individuals, communities, political subcultures, social media spheres, even whole countries are each, it would seem, a ticking time bomb…

Where is the fuse, the key or trigger? How can we detect and diffuse such intense energy-pockets bent on total destruction? Anxiety and fear are like a virus. Perhaps the solution is to acknowledge, examine, and then contain and discard them. Maybe art can help with this by providing an encapsulation of the subject, something that safely externalizes the issue, providing release. And maybe Time is the key…

Manifest invites artists to submit works which in some way address the theme of TIME BOMBS (works about anxiety, impending disaster, fear, worry, etc.). Artists are encouraged to take a broadly creative view of the theme. Our multi-member juries embrace surprise, creative solutions, and most of all exceptionally well put together visual art. The bottom line is the work should address the general theme discussed above in some way, even if subtle and understated.

This exhibit has no defined expectation for type or style of work to be considered or selected. Submissions can range from the most traditional realism to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental.

Annual Cash Award

The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the ‘best of the entire season’. Winner will be determined by a final end-of-year jury from among a pool of all top-scoring works from each exhibit’s jury process across the current exhibition season. This process will apply to exhibits from the start of our 16th season on September 27, 2019, and applies to each exhibit through August 2020, including this one.
