Deadline: September 23, 2019
Entry fee: from $13 to $40
Prizes: participation in the exhibition
The material nature of photographic subjects might be considered trivial, given the very nature of photography itself. There are, however, images whose photographic meaning emerges from the way the photographer approaches the materiality of objects, such as glass, metal, concrete, wooden, plastic, and all the other natural and artificial materials. Masters of photography often studied the texture, form and other physical qualities of objects with respect to their capacity to enrich the composition and the communicative photographic content of images. From architectural photography to still life, from portraits to experimental photographic images and abstract photography, qualities of the subject’s material often gain significance to be noticed and interpreted by the viewer.
PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Material. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; we welcome submissions from all photographic genres, including abstract compositions. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.
One juror’s choice and up to three honourable mentions will be selected and announced. The juror’s choice receives three free entries for any upcoming themed group exhibition calls at PH21 Gallery. (Each free entry includes up to 15 images.)
